Sports Minister Kofi Adams has urged the GFA to embrace government financial accountability measures, which are integral to national objectives.
His remarks align with President John Dramani Mahama’s recent order: No first-class foreign travel without the Chief of Staff’s approval.
“Even yesterday [Friday, February 7] at our swearing-in, what did His Excellency the President say? He stated a ban on foreign travel, requiring all necessary trips approved by the Chief of Staff. Anyone cleared to travel should not fly first class at best, business class,” he told LUV FM.
The minister highlighted that this directive to promote responsible governance covers all sectors, such as the GFA.
“This should tell you that this is the mindset of the President, and every other person must develop the same mindset, including the GFA. Without the President’s clear objectives and direction, the GFA cannot live in a different world.”
Representing Buem, Adams emphasized the necessity of dialogue with football’s governing body to gain support for and comprehend the government’s approach.
“We will sit with them to have that understanding, and I believe they will not kick against any such proposition.”
Addressing more than just finances, Adams also spoke about Ghanaian football’s decline and the widening gap between management and fans.
“Look, our sports,” our football is down. The trust level between management, fans, and followers is low.”
His statements imply that he will focus on effective governance, financial efficiency, and restoring faith in Ghanaian football during his term.
