The Super Eagles coach must win AFCON 2025 – NFF

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has been tasked by Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau to reach the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco.

Morocco will host the 35th continental championship, beginning December 21, 2025, with 24 countries vying for the title.

Nigeria is in Group C with Tunisia, Tanzania, and Uganda. The Super Eagles are set to begin their run against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars on December 23, 2025.

As the tournament nears, Nigeria’s football head has tasked Eric Chelle with guiding the Super Eagles to the AFCON finals.

“The goal for Eric Chelle is to make the AFCON final,” he told Eagles FM during an interview.

Additionally, Gusau restated his position on coaches’ autonomy, emphasizing his hands-off approach to player decisions and team management.

“I will never instruct a coach on which players to invite. Since becoming NFF president, I have never stayed in the same hotel with the national team because I do not want to be a distraction,” he explained.

Nigeria’s last victory was in 2013, with inconsistent results since, including a 2021 group-stage exit and a 2023 second-place finish. Given that context, the NFF’s goal shows both drive and rising stress.
