Despite their exit from the CAF Champions League, Dr Richard Kwaku Duah Nsenkyire, president of Samartex, has expressed his support for the team.
The Timber Boys were eliminated from the competition with a 4-2 aggregate score, ending their debut run in Africa’s top club tournament.
Dr Nsenkyire, in his address to the players after the match, praised their relentless effort despite the disappointing outcome. He motivated them to perceive the experience as an opportunity for growth.
“It was not an easy game. We have lost, we are out of the competition. In football, it’s either you win, draw, or lose. Unfortunately, we have lost. I know you guys did your best, your best was not enough to take us through, but all is not lost,” he said.
Samartex, who tied 2-2 in the initial match in Accra, encountered a difficult situation in Morocco. Marouane Zila and Naoufel Zerhouni scored goals to win for Raja Casablanca and eliminate the Ghana Premier League champions.
Despite challenges, Dr Nsenkyire maintains an optimistic attitude towards the future and urges the team to prioritize their domestic ambitions.
“It’s our first time in this competition, and I believe that as we progress, next season, if we win the league again, we will have learned our lessons, learned our mistakes, and we will have improved, stay competitive,” he added.
After their continental adventure, Samartex will refocus on the Ghana Premier League, with two important matches against Bibiani Gold Stars and Medeama SC to defend their title, keeping their domestic ambitions at the forefront.
