Be patient with the Black Stars Budget – Kofi Adams

Because of public pressure, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has refused to release the Black Stars’ budget for their matches against Chad and Madagascar immediately.

With pressure mounting for Ghana’s sports sector to be more financially transparent, Adams believes releasing budget details is premature.

“You will know it when the time comes. I’m saying that I will make it public. Has the National Team ceased playing? We have the next assignment in September; we have matches we will play. And we will surely make it public,” Adams said in an interview on Channel One TV on Tuesday, April 15.

The Minister warned against premature publication, emphasizing that the budget was still a work in progress.

“It will be unfair to make a draft budget public, I’m not hiding it,” he emphasized.

Following national team events, Adams pledged total transparency to Ghanaians, and he again promised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) would submit its budget promptly for September’s games.

“There’s no way I’m going to allow the Ghana Football Association to delay in presentation of a budget for the September round of matches,” he affirmed.

Concerning Ghana’s sports administration’s internal workings, Adams advised against antagonistic approaches toward the GFA, promoting collaboration and constructive communication.

“There are a number of federations that, as a minister responsible for sports, you will work with and work through. Being an antagonist should be the last thing you must adopt as a leader,” he stated.

Despite acknowledging current difficulties, the Minister prioritized finding solutions instead of engaging in personal conflict.

“I see problems, but I don’t see the human beings as the problems. The first thing I will do is to let us identify the problem. And to let you know that we must solve these problems,” he explained.

However, he warned that those who impede progress might eventually be seen as part of the problem.

“But where you continue to become an obstacle to solving the problems, then it means now you are a problem, and in that case, we can deal with you as the problem.
