Ghanaian international Antoine Semenyo is close to a move to Manchester City, with the forward set to undergo a medical on Thursday ahead of a £65 million transfer.
Once the Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur Premier League match concludes on Wednesday night, the deal should be finalized.
Semenyo will play in the match, confirmed Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, who added it might be his last game.
A deal is agreed in principle for the 25-year-old to move to the Premier League champions, using the £65m release clause in his Friday-expiring contract. Only City has contacted Bournemouth to activate the clause, even though Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Chelsea showed serious interest before Christmas.
Chelsea inquired at first, but didn’t proceed; Tottenham then looked elsewhere.
Bristol City, in the Championship, will also benefit from the transfer; they are due 20% of Semenyo’s sale proceeds. The Robins transferred the Ghana forward to Bournemouth in January 2023 for roughly £10m, which means they could make a significant profit if the transfer goes through.
Semenyo will add depth and versatility to Pep Guardiola’s attack at Manchester City. The club wants to keep Savinho and Omar Marmoush, even if the Ghanaian leaves, denying reports that their futures depend on City’s interest in the Bournemouth winger.
Semenyo is a standout player for Bournemouth this season and remains important to the Black Stars. Moving to the Etihad Stadium could be a big career move for him.
