Karela United FC secured a 1–0 win over Asante Kotoko SC at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, avenging their previous 4–2 loss in Kumasi.
The decisive goal came in the 41st minute when Malik Abubakar finished calmly to put the hosts ahead.
Earlier, Karela goalkeeper Daniel Afadzwu made a crucial double save, blocking the initial shot and quickly stopping the rebound to deny Kotoko an opening goal.
Kotoko’s situation worsened when Henry Ansu was sent off, leaving them a player short as Karela pressed for a second goal.
In the 65th minute, Rahman Yaya advanced, but his pass to Felix Mortu was squandered when the striker failed to control it.
Karela nearly doubled their lead in the 87th minute when substitute Sulley Kassim had a clear chance, but Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara made an excellent save to keep the score at 1–0.
The win moves Karela United to sixth place with 38 points. Kotoko dropped to fifth, now seven points behind the league leaders. Face Nations FC in a local derby, while Karela United travel to play Berekum Chelsea FC in their next league fixture.
In other matches, Heart of Lions FC returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Swedru All Blacks FC.
Medeama SC suffered a major setback in their Ghana Premier League title chase after losing 2–1 to relegation-threatened Hohoe United FC in a dramatic match in Tarkwa.
At the Wenchi Sports Stadium, Young Apostles FC dealt a blow to Bibiani Gold Stars FC’ title hopes with an impressive victory.
Meanwhile, Accra Hearts of Oak SC were held to a goalless draw by Basake Holy Stars FC at the University of Ghana Stadium, extending the Phobians’ winless run.
Elsewhere, Aduana FC bounced back from recent struggles with a comfortable 2–0 win over bottom-placed Techiman Eleven Wonders FC at the Nana Agyeman Badu I Park.
Vision FC also produced an impressive second-half performance to defeat Berekum Chelsea FC 3–1 at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Park, extending their unbeaten run to six matches.
