Aduana FC and Asante Kotoko played out a goalless draw at the Nana Agyemang Badu Stadium on Sunday. The result does little to help either team’s chances in the title race.
This match was seen as an important clash in the fight for the top spot, with only one point separating the teams before kick-off. After the draw, Kotoko stay in third place with 43 points from 27 games, while Aduana are fifth with 42. Both teams missed the chance to catch up to the leaders.
Aduana had more of the ball and looked more dangerous in attack, with 52 percent possession and 12 shots to Kotoko’s four. They also won 16 corners but could not turn their advantage into goals.
Kotoko, coming off a win against Nations FC, found it hard to create good chances and was mostly kept in check by Aduana’s organised defence.
This result is similar to their FA Cup quarterfinal two months ago, which also finished goalless before Aduana won on penalties. Aduana can take some positives from their control and strong defence, but their finishing lets them down. Kotoko might be happy with a point away from home as the title race stays close with only a few games left.
In other games, Karela United earned a solid 2-0 win over Bibiani Gold Stars at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
First-half goals from Mohammed Awal Alhassan and Felix Mortu gave the home team all three points and ended the visitors’ time at the top of the league.
Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak returned to the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon and played out a dramatic 2-2 draw with Swedru All Blacks, coming back from two goals down.
