France defender Raphael Varane has joined the newly promoted Serie A side Como as a free agent.
The Italian club has secured the services of the 31-year-old for a two-year contract.
Before his three-year stint at Old Trafford, the 2018 World Cup winner claimed three La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues with Real Madrid.
His international football career saw him play 93 times for his country before retiring last year.
After 21 years, Como returns to Italy’s top flight and appoints former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas as their head coach.
Varane said he would encounter Cesc again, but not in a competitive context.
“I’m filled with joy because I admire his playing philosophy and passion for football.”
