Kimito Nono scored his first two goals for D.C. United, including an 80th-minute equaliser, as the visitors held Western Conference leaders Vancouver Whitecaps FC to a 3-3 draw at BC Place on Saturday, September 26. United twice came from behind to secure a point despite missing forwards Tai Baribo and Louis Munteanu through international duty.
Nono opened the scoring in the 16th minute, finishing from close range following a corner. Vancouver responded nine minutes later when Brian White converted the rebound after Sean Johnson had saved his initial effort.
The hosts completed the turnaround in first-half stoppage time, with Bruno Caicedo exchanging passes with Thomas Müller before finishing to give Vancouver a 2-1 lead at the break.
United drew level in the 65th minute as captain Lucas Bartlett rose to head home Keisuke Kurokawa’s corner. The Whitecaps regained the advantage seven minutes later, however, when Müller struck from around 20 yards, his effort finding the net via the woodwork.
D.C. responded once again in the 80th minute. Nono volleyed home to complete his brace and make it 3-3, ensuring United came away with a point. Vancouver had one final opportunity to claim the victory in stoppage time, but Mathías Laborda sent his effort off target.
United finished with 22 shots compared with Vancouver’s 16, while both sides registered nine attempts on target. The draw moved D.C. to 30 points and Vancouver to 50.
United next return to Audi Field to host SC Paderborn in an international friendly on September 30.
