Following Asante Kotoko’s 1-0 win over Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum discussed their game plan.
Ogum recognized the highly competitive and intense match, particularly during the first half.
“I think it was a very tight and compact game, especially if you look at how both teams played in the first half,” Ogum remarked during the post-match press conference.
The Kotoko coach discussed Hearts of Oak’s direct style of play and their tactical response. “We realized they were direct in their approach. So we decided to leave Albert [Amoah] on top so that they could have three men and then launch the attack,” he said. “Out of that, we created a lot of chances.”
Albert Amoah’s late goal, a result of a successful tactical change, secured the win and showcased his excellent season form. Ogum lauded Amoah’s performance, highlighting his goal as evidence of their teamwork and planning.
Ogum commended Hearts of Oak’s performance, noting the high standard they displayed.
“Hearts of Oak played very well,” Ogum admitted, emphasizing his respect for the Phobians despite Kotoko securing the crucial three points.
After their win, Kotoko is sixth in the league (21 points), dragging Hearts of Oak down to seventh.
