Ipswich Town are close to signing Ghana international Abdul Fatawu from Leicester City, with both clubs said to have agreed on a £20 million transfer.
The East Anglian Daily Times and the Ipswich Star report that the deal is moving quickly. Leicester wants to finish the transfer before Ipswich leaves for their pre-season training camp in Spain next week.
Talks between the clubs picked up after Ipswich’s first bid was turned down on Friday. Since then, negotiations have moved forward, and it is believed the Championship club has now agreed on a fee for the 22-year-old winger.
Several clubs showed strong interest in Fatawu. Premier League side Everton were said to be close to agreeing personal terms with him, while West Ham United and Turkish club Beşiktaş were also linked.
Despite interest from other clubs, Ipswich seem to have secured the 32-cap Black Stars winger. He is expected to boost Kieran McKenna’s attacking options for the 2026/27 season.
Fatawu first joined Leicester City on loan from Sporting CP in 2023. The move became permanent after the Foxes were promoted to the Premier League.
Since then, he has become one of Ghana’s top attacking players. Moving to Portman Road would give him a new chance to grow and play an important part in Ipswich’s plans for the upcoming season.
