GFA’s Kurt Okraku breaks his silence in his absence after the passing of Yaw Frimpong (Nana Pooley).
Many criticized and speculated about his absence, questioning his lack of public statements.
GFA Executive Council member Nana Sarfo Oduro disclosed Okraku’s absence from the country due to medical reasons.
In his initial meeting with Asante Kotoko following the incident, Okraku refuted allegations of campaigning for a CAF position, clarifying his trip was for official GFA business and personal health reasons.
“When the Nsoatre incident happened, I was out of the country, not for a CAF slot campaign but to work for the FA and seek medical attention. However, every action the FA took was under my directive, and we responded swiftly to the situation,” he explained.
He reiterated his plea for anyone with information on Nana Pooley’s killer to step up and help achieve justice.
“All of us have a role to play. It’s unacceptable for a single life to be lost. Someone witnessed what happened in Nsoatre, and that person must be honest enough to reveal the truth. It’s a painful moment, but also an opportunity to positively impact Ghana football. The journey to reform our game is tough, but we will get there,” Okraku said.
Meanwhile, as the Ghana Premier League’s return nears, Asante Kotoko restarted their training sessions.
Concerns about hooliganism caused the league’s suspension, and Kotoko and Hearts of Oak led the charge for improved security. League resumption is reportedly possible on March 1st, alongside FA Cup fixtures on the weekend.
