MTN FA Cup: Kotoko coach relishing FA Cup crown ahead of their semifinal game

With a 2-1 quarter-final win over True Democracy on Sunday, Kotoko could win the MTN FA Cup in 90 minutes.

A 12th-minute goal by Saaka Dauda put the Porcupine Warriors ahead, but True Democracy leveled the score after halftime.

But thanks to a late goal by Kwame Opoku, the Porcupine Warriors secured a vital victory, enhancing their prospects of winning the FA Cup after an eight-year absence.

Kotoko’s last trophy win was in 2017, a 3-1 victory against Accra Hearts of Oak; they haven’t won one since.

The Porcupine Warriors, the competition’s second-best team with nine trophies, are ready to challenge the record-holding Hearts of Oak (11 trophies).

Kotoko’s impressive weekend performance solidified their chances of a league and cup double.

Kotoko leads Bibiani GoldStars in the Ghana Premier League by one point and will play Berekum Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final.

Though winning the FA Cup was a top priority for Kotoko, coach Prosper Ogum expressed measured optimism after beating True Democracy.

“Winning trophies is the goal of every coach. Every player aims to win trophies to be remembered one day.,” he said.

Prosper Ogum’s FA Cup performance is better than his previous showings, which ended in the Round of 64 and the last 16.
