Despite Ghana’s poor performances in the ongoing 2025 AFCON qualifiers, George Afriyie believes authorities should support and have faith in Otto Addo.
Addo, 45, is feeling immense pressure after losing 2-0 to Sudan in the return leg of the Matchday four games on Tuesday.
Ghana’s loss puts them in third place in Group F with only two points, and they are now in danger of failing to qualify for the continental event for the first time since 2004.
Despite calls for Otto Addo’s dismissal, Mr. Afriyie wants to retain him and let him continue the project he started.
“I am not one of those who will say we have to sack Otto. We have to keep faith with him and ensure that he continues the process he has started because we still have the World Cup qualifiers,” Afriyie told Asempa FM.
“We have to give him the needed support. Going forward in this Afcon [qualifiers], let’s accept that we are out and allow Otto to take his decisions, learn on the job, and then move forward,” he added.
To qualify for the tournament in Morocco, Ghana needs to win their last two qualifiers against Angola and Niger in November and hope that Sudan, currently in second place with seven points, stumbles in their upcoming matches.
Angola has secured their qualification with 12 points, leaving Niger at the bottom with only one point.
