The GFA Executive Council approved the 2025-26 Omnibus Competitions Calendar after its June 9th meeting, where the General Secretary presented it.
The GFA scheduled the next football season from July 1, 2025 – to June 30, 2026, according to its statutes and accounting cycle. The calendar was designed to accommodate the 23rd FIFA World Cup, which is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 11, 2026. All major domestic competitions will conclude before the global tournament begins.
Key features of the 2025/26 season include:
- Premier League: Matches will continue to be played on Sundays, with midweek slots available for outstanding fixtures.
- Division One League and Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League: Both competitions retain their Sunday matchdays.
- MTN FA Cup: While most matches will be played on weekends, a few ties in the Round of 64 and Round of 63 may take place midweek. The Women’s FA Cup will be held exclusively on weekends.
- eTrophy – GFA eFootball Competition: The digital competition returns this season, offering a path to the national eFootball team.
- Beach Soccer and Futsal Premier Leagues: These will continue as part of the GFA’s expanded competition structure.
Regional Football:
The 2025-2026 RFA season, encompassing all leagues (including Division Two, Three, Regional Women’s Division One, and Colts Leagues U13-U17), runs from October 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026.
The 2025/26 season will see a nationwide rollout of the Girls Colts competitions (U15 and U17), following successful pilots in the Northern and Greater Accra Regions. This project receives support from FIFA’s Women’s Football Development programme as well as the Ten RFAs.
Off-season Competitions:
The calendar has room for various off-season tournaments, including the Elite U15 Girls Championship, Elite U19 Second Division Championship, Boys U15 Elite Competition, and the KGL Foundation U17 Colts Championship.
The GFA has made key dates, such as club registration and the 31st GFA Annual Congress, available early to give stakeholders sufficient planning time. The GFA is committed to a well-organized and competitive season for all divisions and age groups.
