World Cup 2026 Prep: England to face Uruguay and Japan in March

Ghana’s Black Stars Group L opponent, England, will face Uruguay and Japan at Wembley in March, their final matches before Thomas Tuchel selects his 2026 World Cup squad.

The Three Lions are set to play Uruguay on March 27 and Japan on March 31, with Tuchel set to announce his squad in May.

“We are really pleased to have these two fixtures confirmed as our World Cup year takes shape,” said Tuchel.

“We wanted to play two teams ranked in the top 20 in the world, but also to test ourselves against opponents from outside of Europe.”

Uruguay ranks 16th and Japan 18th in the men’s FIFA rankings, and both teams have qualified for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States from June 11 to July 19.

England’s Group L opponents are Croatia, Ghana, and Panama, and they’ll play two friendlies in America before the tournament.

Tuchel’s team will play all group games in the US, starting with Croatia on June 17 and Ghana on June 23, at 21:00 BST.

The game against Panama on June 27 at 22:00 BST is their final group stage match.
