Bayern Munich’s head coach, Vincent Kompany, signed a contract extension keeping him there until the summer of 2029, which means his old contract, which was to expire in 2027, has been prolonged.
Kompany became Bayern’s manager in the summer of 2024, and in his first season, he won the Bundesliga, taking the title back from Bayer Leverkusen.
He won the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup in August, increasing his silverware count.
The 39-year-old ex-defender has 49 wins, nine draws, and nine losses in 67 matches. His Bundesliga record: 32 wins, seven draws, two losses in 41 games, 2.51 points/match. In the league’s history, only Pep Guardiola has a better record (2.52).

“I’m delighted about this extension,” said Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl. “When we signed Vinny, we had a clear imagination of our path together, and he’s quickly proved that he’s taking Bayern forward both on and off the pitch.
“He’s a figure of identification who unites the players, the fans, and everyone at the club. And we want to create something long-term with him.”
CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen added, “Vincent has brought the fun back to Bayern. A real team has grown under his leadership that plays dominant and attractive football.”
This season, the Belgian coach guided Bayern to the best Bundesliga start ever, with seven wins and a +23 goal difference.
Bayern’s 2-1 win against Borussia Dortmund also saw them match BVB’s record.
“I’m grateful, feel honoured and want to thank Bayern for their confidence and the working environment that they’ve offered me from day one,” Kompany stated.
“It feels like I’ve been here a lot longer and that I know the club well. It’s been a great experience so far. We’ve started a wonderful journey. Let’s keep working hard and enjoy plenty more success.”
If Bayern defeats Club Brugge on Wednesday, they will have won all 13 of their 2025/26 matches in the Champions League.
They’ll put their undefeated Bundesliga record to the test in Saturday’s match against Borussia Mönchengladbach, with a five-point advantage over RB Leipzig.
