After retiring a month ago, Wojciech Szczesny has joined Barcelona till the end of the season.
After his Juventus contract expired on August 27, 34-year-old Szczesny retired.
Barcelona’s first-choice goalkeeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, suffered a devastating knee injury in their 5-1 victory over Villarreal last month, leaving a void in the team’s goalkeeping department.
Having started his career at Arsenal at the age of 16, Szczesny has since played 181 matches and had stints with Brentford, Roma, and Juventus, before his recent move to Barcelona.
After joining Juventus in 2017, he played 252 games in seven years, winning three Serie A titles and three Coppas Italia.
The Polish player from Warsaw won 84 caps at four European Championships and two World Cups.
Szczesny noted his retirement: “My body is still ready for challenges, but my heart is not. Now is the time to focus on my family.”
Barcelona fell 4-2 to Osasuna on Saturday but remains at the top with seven victories from eight games. However, on Tuesday, Young Boys defeated Barcelona 5-0 in the Champions League.
