Rodrigo Bentancur: Tottenham midfielder banned for seven games for using a racial epithet directed at Heung-Min Son

Tottenham’s Rodrigo Bentancur has been suspended for seven domestic games by the FA for a racist comment he made about Heung-Min Son on TV.
The FA charged Bentancur on September 12 with a possible misconduct violation stemming from a June interview aired on Canal 10. In the interview, the host asked Bentancur to display a Spurs player’s jersey.
The ex-Juventus player Bentancur asked, “Sonny’s?“It might be Sonny’s cousin; they all have the same appearance.
An independent panel was obligated to decide on the FA charge, either upholding it or dismissing it, as the incident constituted an “aggravated breach” despite Bentancur’s prompt apology.
The independent regulatory commission panel found Bentancur guilty. He will miss Tottenham’s next seven domestic matches, but he can still play in the Europa League games against Roma and Rangers.
An FA spokesperson revealed an independent regulatory commission issued that Rodrigo Bentancur a seven-match suspension and a £100,000 fine for violating FA Rule E3 in a media interview.
“It was alleged that the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder breached FA Rule E3.1 as he misbehaved and/or used abusive and insulting words, bringing the game into disrepute.
“It was further alleged that this constitutes an “aggravated breach”, defined in FA Rule E3.2, as it included a reference – whether express or implied – to nationality and/or race and ethnic origin.
“Rodrigo Bentancur denied this charge, but the independent Regulatory Commission found it to be proven and imposed his sanctions following a hearing.”
Despite Bentancur’s error, Son clarified their relationship remains unchanged.
