Manchester United finalized the transfers of defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.
The transfer of De Ligt is worth €50m (£42.7m), with €45m (£38.4m) paid upfront and €5m (£4.3m) in additional payments. As long as he is registered by noon on Thursday, he is eligible to play in United’s first Premier League game against Fulham on Friday, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
The 24-year-old center-back from the Netherlands, who previously played for Juventus, has made 73 appearances and scored five goals throughout two seasons at Bayern.
De Ligt worked with Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag at Ajax, which resulted in an Eredivisie victory in 2019.
“The moment Manchester United expressed their interest in me, I felt an immediate surge of excitement at the prospect of facing a new challenge at a club of such historic significance.”
“In the following conversations, I was impressed by the football leadership’s vision and the role they saw for me in it.
“Erik ten Hag shaped the early stages of my career so he knows how to get the best out of me and I cannot wait to work with him again.
“I know what it takes to succeed at the highest level, and I’m determined to continue that record at this special club.”
United’s central defense gets a boost with De Ligt’s arrival after Varane’s departure, but Yoro will be out for three months with a foot injury from the pre-season match against Arsenal.
The club has finalized a deal for 26-year-old full-back Mazraoui, who is joining for a €15m fee (£12.8m) with the potential for an additional €5m (£4.2m) in add-ons.
Ten Hag also coached Mazraoui at Ajax. He won three league championships with the Dutch team and one more with Bayern.
The player from Morocco has 28 caps for his country and reached the semi-final round of the 2022 World Cup.
He signed a four-year contract with the possibility of another year and arrived on the day Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s departure to West Ham was announced.
