Even after Manchester United showed interest in making him their manager, Ruben Amorim is still considering his future.
On Tuesday, Sporting confirmed that United had made contact and are prepared to meet Amorim’s 10 million euros (£8.3 million) release clause.
In an interview with Sport TV after his team’s 3-1 victory over Nacional in the Portuguese League Cup quarterfinal on Tuesday, Amorim stressed, “The result is still up in the air.”
He then revealed during a press event, “Manchester United has expressed interest. Contract details are being worked out, and I will share my decision once it’s more certain, as the choice ultimately belongs to me.”
“While I don’t have everything decided, I can’t tell much more for one side or the other.”
Amorim confirmed his presence at practice on Wednesday to prepare for Friday’s league game against Estrela da Amadora.
When asked if he would be in the Old Trafford dugout for Manchester United’s game against Chelsea on Sunday, Amorim confirmed, “I will be here.”
Pep Guardiola of Manchester City believes United would be getting a coach of high caliber in Amorim.
“All I can talk about is the experience of playing twice against Ruben’s Sporting Lisbon team one or two seasons ago, and the pressure was really good,” the Spaniard told a news conference.
“And look, this season, he is unbeaten and winning all the games in the Portuguese League and the Champions League, [they have] the same points as us. So, a high manager.
“What’s going to happen? I don’t know because what happened here, in my experience, doesn’t mean it works for the others. The manager, the team, the club, the structures, the physios, the doctors, the players, it’s many things”.
