Nations FC are out of the CAF Confederation Cup after drawing 1-1 with FC Diarra in the second leg of their preliminary-round match at Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
After losing 1-0 in the first leg, the MTN FA Cup holders needed a comeback. They had plenty of possession and chances, but it was not enough to avoid elimination.
FC Diarra scored first, putting Nations under pressure, but the Ghanaian side responded with an equalizer.
Nations kept pushing for a winning goal but could not find the breakthrough they needed to change the outcome.
The draw allowed FC Diarra to advance 2-1 on aggregate, ending Nations FC’s first CAF Confederation Cup campaign in the preliminary round.
With their elimination, Ghana’s continental campaign ends early.
Medeama had already exited the CAF Champions League after a 4-1 aggregate loss to TP Mazembe, so both Ghanaian teams were eliminated before the group stage.
These early exits once again raise questions about Ghanaian clubs’ performance in Africa, as the country now has no teams in inter-club competitions.
