D.C. United rescue late draw against St. Louis CITY SC at Audi Field

D.C. United salvaged a dramatic late point after playing out a 1-1 draw against St. Louis CITY SC in their MLS clash at Audi Field on Saturday night.

The visitors struck first shortly after halftime when former D.C. United midfielder Chris Durkin finished a well-worked move in the 50th minute to give St. Louis CITY SC the lead. The away side seemed set for all three points after frustrating D.C. United for much of the second half.

D.C. United pushed forward relentlessly in the closing stages, with Roman Bürki making several key saves to deny Tai Baribo, Louis Munteanu, and Jared Stroud. The pressure paid off in the 90th minute when João Peglow fired a stunning volley from outside the box to level the match and earn a point for the hosts.

The drama continued deep into stoppage time as St. Louis CITY SC were reduced to ten men following Conrad Wallem’s second yellow card. D.C. United thought they had snatched a dramatic winner moments later through Louis Munteanu, but the goal was overturned after a VAR review.

Despite dominating late, D.C. United had to settle for a share of the spoils in an entertaining match that saw both sides extend their unbeaten streaks.
