Ghana football icon Asamoah Gyan is set to assume a new position within the Ghana Football Association after being appointed ambassador for the national teams and Colts football.
The GFA is expected to officially unveil the country’s all-time top scorer during a ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the Pelican Hotel in Accra.
The event is expected to bring together leading football administrators, former teammates, corporate partners, and media representatives. This is part of broader efforts to build nationwide support ahead of Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
Gyan remains one of the most celebrated figures in Ghanaian football, having scored 51 goals for the Black Stars during a distinguished international career that spanned more than a decade.
The former Sunderland AFC forward represented Ghana at the 2006, 2010, and 2014 FIFA World Cups, and scored Ghana’s first World Cup goal against the Czech Republic in 2006.
While his missed penalty against Uruguay at the 2010 World Cup is remembered as a significant moment, Gyan’s dedication and impact on the Black Stars remain widely respected.
As ambassador, he will lead promotional initiatives, fan engagement programs, and corporate partnership activities to generate excitement around the Black Stars ahead of the World Cup.
He will also represent the GFA at official events and support the growth and promotion of Ghana’s national teams and Colts football.
This appointment demonstrates the GFA’s commitment to leveraging Gyan’s influence, experience, and leadership as Ghana prepares for another World Cup campaign.
