Fiorentina have officially ended Tariq Lamptey’s contract by mutual agreement, drawing a swift close to a disappointing spell in which the Ghanaian defender managed just 25 minutes of action for the club.
The 25-year-old full-back joined the Serie A side last summer in a €6 million move from Brighton, signing a three-year deal amid hopes he could revive his injury-hit career in Italy. Once praised by Frank Lampard after an eye-catching debut for Chelsea, Lamptey was expected to rediscover his form in Florence.
However, his time at the club quickly unraveled.
Lamptey made only two brief substitute appearances — a cameo against Napoli and then his sole start versus Como on September 21, 2025. That outing ended abruptly after just 22 minutes when he suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
He did not feature for Fiorentina again.
The injury added to a long history of fitness problems that have disrupted his career. Prior to his move, Lamptey had already endured extended periods on the sidelines during his time at Brighton, and those struggles followed him to Italy, limiting him to just 25 minutes in a Fiorentina shirt.
The contract termination, completed shortly before the end of the Serie A season, leaves Lamptey a free agent with immediate effect. With the 2026 FIFA World Cup fast approaching, his lack of playing time makes a return to the Black Stars uncertain.
For Fiorentina, the decision clears wages and brings an unsuccessful signing to a close. For Lamptey, it marks another attempt to restart his career — and finally overcome the injury troubles that have repeatedly set him back.
