Seeking to steady the ship, new Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has chosen to retain several trusted members of the previous backroom staff.
The seasoned strategist steps in for Otto Addo, following a string of lackluster performances in friendlies against Austria and Germany.
During his unveiling at the Alisa Hotel, it was confirmed that assistant coach Desmond Offei, goalkeepers’ trainer Fatawu Dauda, and high-performance coach John Paintsil will all remain in their roles under the new leadership.
This decision strikes a careful balance between continuity and fresh direction, as Queiroz taps into the team’s established wisdom while weaving in his own tactical vision.
The accomplished Portuguese manager arrives with an impressive pedigree, having coached giants such as Real Madrid and Manchester United and led national teams including Portugal and Iran.
His World Cup track record stands out as well: he steered South Africa to the 2002 finals, took Portugal to the 2010 Round of 16, and guided Iran through both the 2014 and 2018 tournaments.
He has also held roles with the Egypt, Japan, Qatar, and Oman national football teams.
With preparations in full swing, Queiroz is poised to make his mark as he begins molding Ghana’s journey toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Ghana’s quest begins on June 17 in Toronto against Panama, followed by high-stakes clashes with England and Croatia in a group stage brimming with challenges.
