Roger De Sa, the soon-to-be assistant coach of the Black Stars, promises that the technical team is determined to inspire national pride with a standout performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The South African strategist will team up with head coach Carlos Queiroz, stepping in after Otto Addo’s departure in March in the wake of back-to-back losses to Austria and Germany.
De Sa and Queiroz, who have already forged a partnership with Iran and Egypt’s national teams, will now reunite to steer Ghana’s World Cup adventure across the United States, Canada and Mexico this summer.
In an interview with South African outlet KickOff, De Sa brushed aside talk of specific targets, instead emphasizing the honor of representing Ghana on football’s grandest stage.
“It’s all it is, we will do the best we can, there is no mandate to win this and that,” he said. “The job is to go to the World Cup and fly the Ghanaian flag as high as possible.”
The new technical team will be officially introduced in Accra on Thursday, April 23, setting the stage for an intensive preparation period.
As part of their build-up, Ghana will test their mettle in two pre-tournament friendlies against Mexico and Wales on June 2.
In Group L, the Black Stars will kick off their World Cup quest against Panama on June 17, then take on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
This appointment arrives at a pivotal time for Ghana, as the nation looks to rebound from early World Cup exits in 2014 and 2022 and rekindle hopes for a brighter, more stable future.
