Ghana set to appoint Roger De Sa as Carlos Queiroz’s assistant

Carlos Queiroz, Ghana’s new head coach, is on the verge of reuniting with his trusted lieutenant, Roger De Sa, as the Black Stars revamp their technical team for a bold 2026 World Cup campaign.

Reports from South Africa suggest that De Sa is in advanced discussions with the Ghana Football Association to take up the role of assistant coach, further strengthening a partnership that spans several national teams across continents.

The Mozambican-born coaches share a well-established working relationship, having collaborated with Iran during the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the Qatar national team. Their partnership delivered success in Egypt, leading the Pharaohs to the final of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, where they narrowly lost to Senegal on penalties.

Queiroz’s plan to bring De Sa into his backroom staff is seen as a strategic move to maintain continuity and trust as Ghana prepares for the 2026 World Cup, hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

De Sa, who previously served as assistant coach for South Africa, also worked with Queiroz during his time with Portugal, including at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. At club level, he is well known in South African football, having managed several Premier Soccer League sides and notably guiding Orlando Pirates to the final of the 2013 CAF Champions League.

Although the appointment is not yet official, De Sa has indicated talks are at an advanced stage, with only final contractual details pending.

If finalized, Ghana will head into the 2026 World Cup with an experienced and well-synchronized coaching duo, relying on their extensive international experience to elevate the Black Stars on the global stage.
