Carlos Queiroz: “This is a mission, not just a job” in commitment to Ghana

Newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has vowed to meet the high expectations of Ghanaians, stressing discipline, unity, and unwavering commitment as he begins his tenure.

In his first comments after being named by the Ghana Football Association, the Portuguese manager spoke about the responsibility of leading the national team. He said the job is a mission, not just a contract, as the team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Queiroz expressed gratitude and humility and assured fans that he is fully dedicated to the job.

“We will honor the expectations of a great football nation,” he said, sharing his approach based on unity, discipline, and ambition.

At 73, Queiroz takes on the job at an important moment, as Ghana prepares for a tough World Cup. The Black Stars are in a group with England, Croatia, and Panama, and their first match is on June 17 in Toronto.

He was chosen after a period of change, as the GFA wanted an experienced coach to steady the team. Queiroz was picked over other well-known candidates because of his strong international record.

Queiroz has managed Portugal and Iran at several World Cups and worked at top clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester United. He is known for creating disciplined, organized teams that can compete with the best.
