Kurt Okraku expects Black Stars to excel at 2026 World Cup

Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku is confident the national team will make the country proud at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

After missing qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana led their World Cup qualifying group with 25 points. In Group L, the Black Stars will face Panama, England, and Croatia in a challenging and exciting campaign.

In an interview with Asaase Radio, Okraku emphasized the importance of unity, belief, and national support as the team prepares for the World Cup.

“With prayers behind this team, they will make Ghanaians proud at the 2026 World Cup,” he told Asaase Radio.

“We have had a meeting and the vision of the President [John Mahama] is not different from the Sports Minister [Kofi Adams], and it is not different from Otto Addo and his technical team.

“We have soldiers going to war, and we aim to win the battle. We must win against any opposition, and my mission is to lead Ghana and, with the support of Ghanaians, to the World Cup and bring glory to Ghana,” Mr. Okraku added.

Ghana will open the tournament against Panama on June 17, then play England on June 23. Their final group match is against Croatia on June 27, which may determine whether they advance to the next round.

Head coach Otto Addo has scheduled a training camp in March, including international friendlies against Austria and Germany, to prepare the team.

Ghana aims to improve on its performance after failing to advance past the group stage in 2014 and 2022.

Supporters are encouraged to draw inspiration from the team’s historic 2010 quarterfinal run in South Africa to help achieve another significant global impact.
