GFA denies government support in Adesa Production GHC18m television agreement

Prosper Harrison Addo, General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has dismissed claims that the GHC18 million involved in the recent partnership agreement between Adesa Production Limited (APL) and the GFA originates from government funds.
This partnership, revealed in Accra last week prior to the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, will give each Premier League club GHC1 million before the season starts.
Furthermore, three matches will air weekly, with a professionally made show.
Though various reports linked the funds to the state, Harrison Addo said the government’s involvement was just to set the conditions for it.
The government has not directly funded the Football Association, he said.
“Government has not taken its money, and it is being given to the Football Association. The government’s role in this partnership was only to create an enabling environment, and we are grateful for the support from government,” he told Asempa FM.
“The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, and the Sports Minister, Kofi Adams, all said that they support the partnership, so the enabling environment is there for other companies that also want to support the processes and benefits.”
“Government has not given us physical cash to invest in the league, but we are hoping that this partnership works well because it is in the interest of the country if it does work well, but the money is not from government,” he added.
The new Ghana Premier League season begins mid-September.
