Manchester City has signed teenage defender Vitor Reis from Palmeiras for £29.6m.
The 19-year-old is now committed to a four-and-a-half-year contract.
With 22 appearances for Palmeiras and nine for Brazil’s Under-17 side, Reis, a right-footed central defender, has a strong record.
While Palmeiras wanted Reis to stay on loan, Manchester City forced his January transfer.
“This is a dream come true; since I was a young kid, I’ve always dreamt of an opportunity just like this one and play for a club as big as City,” said Reis.
“The magnitude of Manchester City, its history and its structure. When the door knocked and it was Manchester City, I knew there wasn’t anywhere else to go.”
City’s second January signing is a Brazilian, following the signing of Uzbek defender Abdukodir Khusanov.
City’s Premier League title defense has suffered from many injuries this season, primarily affecting the backline.
The club aims to finalize a deal with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush before the transfer win.
