The inaugural FIFA Club World Cup, featuring 32 top teams, will be held in the USA in June and July 2025.
Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Espérance de Tunis (Tunisia), Wydad Casablanca (Morocco), and Al Ahly (Egypt) are four of the African teams participating.
Messi’s Inter Miami will play Al Ahly in the first game of the new 32-team tournament.
The 32 teams will each get $50m (RWF 70 billion), with potential increases based on tournament progress.
Rwandan clubs could benefit significantly from the project if they make it to the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup finals.
APR and Rayon Sports could be in the next edition if their continental performance in the CAF Champions League and/or Confederation Cup is strong.
Five months before the June 14th to July 13th FIFA Club World Cup 2025 match in the US between Mamelodi Sundowns and Ulsan HD is Friday, January 17th.
Al Ahly, Esperance de Tunis, Wydad Casablanca, and the team known as Masandawana will all compete in the now 32-team tournament.
According to Mamelodi Sundowns’ goalkeeper Denis Onyango:
“We’re facing a tough group in the Club World Cup; all teams are league champions, and many are repeat participants. We’re determined to make it out of the group stages.”
