D.C. United’s problems continued on Saturday night as they were beaten 2-0 by FC Cincinnati at Audi Field, leaving them 13th in the Eastern Conference.
The visitors took the lead in the 35th minute when midfielder Evander Ferreira unleashed a long-range effort after being set up by Pavel Bucha. Despite pushing for an equalizer before the break, D.C. United couldn’t breach Cincinnati’s defense.
Cincinnati doubled their advantage seven minutes into the second half. Tom Barlow completed a quick counter after receiving the ball from Evander, putting the visitors in complete control.
D.C. United were far more aggressive in attack and had 13 shots to Cincinnati’s nine, but only two of those were on target, and that lack of finishing was the difference.
Captain Lucas Bartlett was one of the home side’s better performers, with 12 defensive actions to his name. João Peglow was also in good form with 8 recoveries and 2 tackles. Left back Keisuke Kurokawa was very active with 87 touches and two chances created.
The result sees D.C. United sit 7-12-12 with 33 points as they continue their fight to work their way up the Eastern Conference table.
