West Ham forward Crysencio Summerville has elaborated on why he celebrated with Mohammed Kudus following his goal against Manchester United.
Summerville, who moved to the Hammers from Leeds United, broke the deadlock in the 74th minute by converting a loose shot from Danny Ings, following a pass from Jarrod Bowen in the penalty area.
In a celebratory moment, the 22-year-old sprinted shirtless for 50 yards to hug Kudus, who was watching from the stands due to suspension.
After the game, Summerville mentioned that he had made a promise to the Ghana international prior to the match. He stated that he greatly respects Kudus, both for his skills in the game and his character.
“Yeah, yeah, very close. I like Mo [Kudus] a lot. I also look up to him on and off the pitch. So, yeah, I was happy. I told him when I came on. I’m going to score, and I’m going to celebrate with you. So, that’s why the emotions came up,” he explained.
Summerville brought up his interaction with Kudus and the team’s dynamics.
“Yeah, we stick together; I think the group is fantastic. We are currently in this, and I’m happy with the win. So, we can build from this and go again next week. Yeah, a really good squad.”
In the 81st minute, Casemiro completed a three-header play that brought Manchester United even.
The match appeared to be heading towards a draw until a disputed last-minute penalty kick gave the home team the upper hand.
Jarrod Bowen successfully took the penalty kick, resulting in West Ham United’s 2-1 triumph over the Red Devils.
West Ham will be looking to uphold their winning streak as they travel to play Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday.
