The President of the GFA, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, delivered a heartfelt message to the Black Stars players ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan, significantly impacting Ghanaians.
The GFA chief delivered a blunt message, questioning the players’ commitment to their country following a disappointing start to the qualifying campaign. This left the four-time African champions in a tough situation.
In a fiery statement, Kurt Okraku echoed the thoughts of Ghanaians, rebuking the players for their perceived lack of commitment and dedication to the national teams.
The President reminded the privileged players to stay conscious of their role and urged them to intensify their passion, desire, and aggression when wearing the Ghana shirt.
President Simeon-Okraku’s candid conversation struck a chord with Ghanaians, echoing their disappointment with the team’s underwhelming displays.
Ghana, a four-time African champion, currently sits in third place in Group F, and if they don’t improve their position, they may not qualify for next year’s tournament.
Ghana hasn’t won AFCON since 1982 in Libya, and there were expectations of a turnaround following the team’s consecutive early exits in recent tournament editions.
The team’s recent loss to Angola and a draw against Niger have led to criticism as they gear up to face Sudan in a crucial two-legged match on October 10, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium. The return leg will occur in Libya on Tuesday, October 15.
