NPP Manifesto Launch: Bawumia promises a modern stadium in Sunyani and six other districts

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the NPP, has revealed his intention to develop a cutting-edge stadium in Sunyani and additional stadiums in Ghana’s six newly formed regions.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized the vibrant football culture in Sunyani, home to renowned clubs like BA United and Bofoakwa Tano, as the main factor in choosing the city for his sports infrastructure plans.

“We will build six new stadiums in the six new regions and a standard stadium in Sunyani, recognizing their passion for football and the numerous clubs based there,” Dr. Bawumia stated while outlining his sports policies.

He further highlighted his dedication to nationwide sports infrastructure development, building upon ongoing initiatives by the Akufo-Addo government, such as extending astro turfs to all constituencies.

Dr. Bawumia addressed concerns about sports facility upkeep and promised an effective maintenance strategy for newly constructed facilities.

Dr. Bawumia suggested creating a Sports Development Fund and tax incentives to promote corporate investment in sports for sustainable funding. He also suggested reducing taxes to boost the profitability of sports entities.

Dr. Bawumia pledged to provide direct financial aid to Ghana’s Premier League clubs through the National Lotteries Authority and the Gaming Commission, easing operational costs such as player salaries.

Furthermore, Dr. Bawumia announced intentions to create a School Sports Secretariat within the Ministry overseeing sports to foster grassroots sports growth in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service and sports federations.
