Ghana set for high-stakes showdown with Mexico ahead of World Cup

Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, will play Mexico in a friendly match as part of their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to the Ghana Football Association.

This match is the third confirmed preparation game for Otto Addo’s squad ahead of the June tournament. Ghana has already scheduled friendlies against Austria and Germany in March. Facing Mexico will offer an important test as the team prepares for the tournament in North America.

The match will also help Mexico, one of the host nations, prepare for its World Cup opener against South Africa on June 11. Playing Ghana will provide Mexico with valuable experience against African opposition.

This friendly serves as a valuable rehearsal for Ghana before their Group L opener against Panama, whose style of play is similar to Mexico’s. The Black Stars will face Panama in Toronto on June 17, followed by matches against England and Croatia.

The match is scheduled for Friday, May 22, 2026, in Mexico, with the venue to be announced. By that time, both teams are expected to have finalized their rosters and will be refining their strategies for the tournament.
