Former GFA Executive Council member Sammy Anim Addo paid tribute to Asamoah Gyan, hailing him as a footballing legend in Africa, in a congratulatory post.
That claim was supported by the statistic: Asamoah Gyan’s record as Africa’s top FIFA World Cup scorer has yet to be broken.
No other African player has managed to beat the former Black Stars captain’s record of six goals, scored in three World Cups (2006, 2010, and 2014).
Anim Addo wrote on X: “And the KING @ASAMOAH_GYAN3 still reigns,” excitedly adding “Babyjeeeeeet,” ending discussion.
Roger Milla, from Cameroon and whose famous Italia ’90 celebrations people still remember, follows closely behind Gyan. Five World Cup goals by Milla redefined the norms and expectations on the grandest stage.
Nigeria’s Ahmed Musa is on the elite list, thanks to his four goals, including a memorable brace against Iceland during Russia 2018, which cemented his status as one of Africa’s top players.
