Aston Villa’s midfield maestro, Douglas Luiz, has made a significant move to Italian giants Juventus in a record-breaking £42.35 million deal (50 million euros).
Bringing an end to his tenure at Villa Park, the 26-year-old Brazilian has inked a five-year agreement with the Serie A club.
Luiz, a player with 15 international caps, left an indelible mark at Villa, scoring 22 goals in 204 games. His journey at Villa Park began in 2019, after a transfer from Manchester City.
After finishing his medical with Juventus, the midfielder is in the US with Brazil’s national team for the Copa America.
In a video on social media, Luiz shared his excitement about being a Bianconero.
“I’m eagerly anticipating the chance to play at the Allianz Stadium. See you shortly, and come on, Juve!”
Villa qualified for the Champions League for the first time by finishing fourth, with Luiz scoring nine goals in 35 Premier League matches last term.
Despite Villa’s historic qualification for the Champions League, the club was forced to part ways with one of its key players, Luiz, due to the stringent Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
According to PSR rules, Premier League clubs are allowed to incur losses of up to £105m over three years.
Villa have reportedly sold Tim Iroegbunam, 21, to Everton for £9m, while Chelsea have finalized a £19m deal for their 18-year-old attacking midfielder Omari Kellyman.
