Liverpool has completed the signing of Federico Chiesa, the Juventus winger, for £10m, and there is potential for an additional £2.5m if the team meets certain performance targets.
Arne Slot makes his first signing at the club with the arrival of 26-year-old Chiesa on a four-year deal.
The Italian forward led them to victory over England on penalties in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley.
“I’m so happy to be a Liverpool player. When Richard Hughes called me and said, ‘do you want to join Liverpool?’ – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the club’s history and what it represents to the fans,” Chiesa told the club website.
“I’m so happy and can’t wait to start.”
He made a strong impression in his first season at Juve, earning a spot in Serie A’s team of the year. However, his form declined after a serious knee injury in January 2022, leading to surgery.
Chiesa, who has represented Italy 51 times, found the back of the net 32 times in 131 appearances for Juventus, with 10 goals in 37 matches last season.
Chiesa was left out of the first two matchday squads this season by newly-appointed Juventus manager Thiago Motta, as his contract is set to end next summer.
Liverpool manager Slot stated that it would be unexpected if the club doesn’t make any signings this summer, emphasizing the high standards required to join such a talented squad.
Liverpool and Valencia have reached an agreement to transfer Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who will join next season.
