Sports Minister Kofi Adams praises Ghana Armwrestling’s success

Ghana’s Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Iddie Adams, commended the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) for its excellent leadership and achievements.

Ghana Armwrestling’s leadership, with President Charles Osei Asibey, congratulated the Minister on his new role, prompting his comments.

Adams highlighted the GAF’s excellent leadership as vital to the sport’s success and development.

He credited strategic planning, effective management, and stakeholder collaboration for the federation’s accomplishments.

The Minister expressed particular amazement at the sport’s growth since 2016, highlighting Ghanaians’ impact on the continental and global scenes.

Adams stated that he was impressed by the GAF’s progress and amazed by the sport’s rapid growth, particularly Ghanaian representation internationally.

The Minister stressed the recreational aspect of every competitive sport, requesting the GAF’s support for the ministry’s recreational plans.

The ministry’s goals and this alignment are expected to further the growth and development of sports in Ghana.

In addition, Adams confirmed his ministry’s unwavering support for the GAF’s pursuit of international excellence, especially as the nation gears up for the 2027 African Games. He stated that, given the proper backing, arm wrestling could significantly boost Ghana’s international sports profile.

The federation raised concerns about better opportunities for athletes, including security jobs, during a meeting that also covered athlete welfare, talent identification, and coaching development.

Addressing these concerns, the Minister highlighted the necessity of a planned method to back sports that are likely to win medals. “The Ministry is working on classifying sports federations to ensure that those bringing in medals and international recognition receive the necessary resources. Armwrestling has already shown what it can do, and you deserve every bit of support,” he assured.

The Minister also received an invitation from the federation to attend the upcoming Independence Armwrestling Championship, which will celebrate the sport’s achievements and contribution to Ghana’s expanding sports sector.

Following the meeting, both sides pledged continued cooperation to promote and expand Ghana’s Arm Wrestling success internationally.
