The Ministry of Youth and Sports revealed that Ghana will hold the 2024 Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens Tournament in Accra.
The newly-built Rugby Stadium at the University of Ghana will host the matches, demonstrating the country’s increasing support for women’s sports and international events.
According to a statement from the ministry on October 23, Accra will be the host city for the prestigious event, which is a qualifier for the 2025 Challenger Series. This marks the first time West Africa has hosted this renowned continental competition.
Rugby Africa is organizing a tournament where twelve national teams, including current champions South Africa, Kenya, and Ghana, will compete in a fast-paced seven-player format.
Teams must rank within the top three to qualify for the 2025 Challenger Series.
By offering free admission, the tournament aims to bring in a significant audience from local and international communities, thereby increasing the exposure of women’s rugby throughout the continent.
