The President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Abraham Kotei Neequaye, has revealed his decision to step down from his role, citing personal reasons, in a press release issued on Wednesday evening.
Mohammed Amin Lamptey, the GBA’s Communications Director, announced it via WhatsApp.
“I deeply regret to inform fellow Ghanaians that I am resigning as the president of Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) due to personal reasons,” Mr. Neequaye disclosed in the statement.
Though he called the decision difficult, he insisted it was best for him and certain honourable executive board members at this critical juncture.
He will officially announce his resignation at a 10:00 a.m. press conference on June 27, 2025, at the GBA Secretariat; his resignation will take effect that day.
Reflecting on his time as GBA president, Mr. Neequaye expressed gratitude, stating, “I am incredibly thankful for the opportunities I’ve had.”
Mr. Neequaye also acknowledged challenges during his tenure, particularly the public criticism he and some board members received.
He expressed gratitude to the media for their support, particularly to those board members who faced character attacks.
The GBA President underscored the role’s voluntary, non-remunerative status.
“I want to thank fellow compatriots wherever you are for being supportive of my professional growth in an office that doesn’t pay salary or allowance but just a sacrificial work to serve others and one’s country,” he wrote.
The press release encouraged media attendance at Friday’s press conference for direct information gathering.
