Zamalek clinched the 2024 CAF Super Cup with a thrilling penalty shootout win against Al Ahly after a 1-1 draw at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh.
The “White Knights” secured their fifth Super Cup title with a 4-3 penalty shootout.
With a strong start, Al Ahly took the lead moments before halftime. After a VAR review confirmed that Zamalek’s Hamza Mathlouthi had fouled Akram Tawfik, Wessam Abou Ali calmly converted a penalty in the 44th minute.
Despite this, Zamalek made a comeback in the second half and gradually improved their performance in the game. Their determination paid off in the 77th minute when substitute Naser Mansy scored only one minute after entering the game. The score was leveled when he successfully connected with an outstanding cross from Omar Gaber.
Both teams were determined to win, and Al Ahly came close to securing victory in the last moments, but Rami Rabia’s header missed the goal.
The match’s result hinged on penalties. Yahia Attiyat Allah from Al Ahly missed, and Abou Ali’s shot hit the post, giving Zamalek the advantage.
Zamalek secured a dramatic victory as Hossam Abdelmaguid calmly scored the winning penalty.
