We must improve on how to win games – Chelle maintains after Nigeria’s tight win over Tanzania

Nigeria’s Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, acknowledged his team’s need to improve in closing out matches following their first 2025 AFCON game against Tanzania.

Even with missed chances and squandered opportunities on Tuesday, Nigeria managed to edge out a 2-1 win by the final whistle.

In his post-match interview, the coach celebrated the victory but stressed the importance of his team finishing matches with greater conviction.

“We are satisfied with the three points. That is the most important. For the moment, I want to focus on the positives. The second part of the game shows clearly that there is still some work to be done — especially when it comes to killing the game. We are aware of this, and we will work on it,” Eric Chelle said.

With a narrow win over Tanzania, Nigeria now sits second in Group C, level on points with Tunisia but trailing on goal difference.

A victory over the Carthage Eagles on December 27 would propel the Super Eagles to the top of the standings.
