New Zealand held the US men’s national team to a 1-1 draw after a shock equalizer.
The USMNT missed out on a bounceback win as Ben Waine’s late goal canceled out their lead, following their 2-1 defeat to Canada, coinciding with Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment as their new head coach.
It was a goalless match until the 69th minute when Christian Pulisic scored the first goal. Forward Folarin Balogun assisted the USMNT captain, an AC Milan star, in scoring a goal to the far post.
The US seemed poised to secure the victory until Waine’s equalizing goal, as a clearance attempt inadvertently redirected off the New Zealand forward and past US goalkeeper Matt Turner.
