Togo boss Patrice Neveu claims Senaya opts for Hawks over Ghana

Togo head coach Patrice Neveu has revealed that defender Marvin Senaya has responded positively to representing Togo, as the tug-of-war with Ghana over the player’s international future intensifies.

The AJ Auxerre right-back finds himself at the center of a dual call-up, having been named in both Togo’s squad and Ghana’s squad for the March international window.

Neveu confirmed he has already spoken with the 23-year-old and is encouraged by the feedback, though he stopped short of declaring the situation resolved.

“Senaya was contacted, and I received his response. It was positive regarding Togo,” Neveu stated.

However, the French tactician emphasized that the final decision will ultimately depend on whether the player reports to camp.

“If he’s not there for the training camp, we’ll draw conclusions. He gave his agreement, and an agreement is verbal. I don’t want to get into any arguments. I’m waiting.”

The situation escalated after Ghana coach Otto Addo included Senaya in his 26-man squad for upcoming friendlies against Austria and Germany, despite the player’s prior involvement in Togo’s plans for matches against Guinea and Niger.

Senaya, who plays in France, is widely regarded as a modern full-back—combining pace, defensive awareness, and attacking support.

Ghana are eager to reinforce the right-back position, an area that has lacked consistency in recent years, particularly due to recurring injuries to Tariq Lamptey.

Born in France, Senaya is eligible to represent multiple nations. He is the son of former Togo international Yao Mawuko Senaya and is also believed to have Ghanaian heritage.

Neveu has made it clear he will avoid any public dispute, choosing instead to wait for the player’s final decision—expected to become evident once national team camps commence.

Until Senaya makes a competitive senior appearance, he remains eligible for both countries, leaving one of African football’s most closely watched international eligibility battles unresolved.
