Ghanaian forward Mohammed Kudus encouraged African players to fully display their talents when given the opportunity.
During a Premier League Productions interview, the West Ham United star discussed the common stereotype hindering recognition of African players’ talent.
“Mostly, when African players are being described, it’s more about their physique, strength, and their speed,” he said.
However, in Kudus’ opinion, African players possess significantly more potential.
“In my eyes, I believe that we have skilful players. I would urge more African players to be who they are and enjoy their qualities and stuff.”
Yaya Toure, Manchester City’s icon, was used by a 24-year-old as an example of a player whose potential was underappreciated.
“Yaya Toure was crazy, untouchable. He had more than pace and power.”
“You need a lot of flair to be beating players. This league, everyone, is strong. Everyone is strong and fast, so you need something special to do that.”
Kudus’s impressive performance last season contrasts with his current struggles, having only managed four goals for West Ham this season.
He played in the game where West Ham United lost to Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday.
