Coco Gauff made tennis history by winning the 2025 French Open. Winning her second Grand Slam and first Roland-Garros title, the 21-year-old tennis star beat Aryna Sabalenka in a three-set match.
After a tough match in difficult conditions, American Gauff, the second seed, beat the WTA Tour’s top player 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-4.
This is Gauff’s second Grand Slam singles victory; she also won the US Open in 2023 against Sabalenka.
Gauff, 21, stated that this Grand Slam win was a greater difficulty than her first, attributing it to her aversion to complacency.

Despite a shaky start, Gauff rallied from a double break deficit, capitalizing on Sabalenka’s numerous errors to regain her composure.
“This hurts so much. Congratulations to Coco – she was a better player than me,” said Sabalenka, who was also bidding for her first Roland Garros title.
A strong wind heavily impacted the serve during the first two sets, causing twelve breaks of serve in a match that was fun to watch despite the inconsistent play.
After losing last year’s final, Gauff dominated the third set, breaking her opponent’s serve and holding her own to win.
Before securing her second championship point, she fended off another break point, collapsing backward onto the clay as Sabalenka’s forehand sailed wide.
As her jubilant parents, Candi and Corey, cheered from the stands, Gauff embraced Sabalenka warmly before joining her family in their post-match celebration.
